Brief history of Film Noir

I have learned that Film Noir stems from German Expressionism which existed between the 1910s and 1920s. I have also learned that the first major Noir film was the Maltese Falcon which was released in 1941. I now have ideas of what should be in my scene, such as motivation for crime and themes that are relevant from the Great Depression.
